Patriotic

Recorder of Crosses

The UDC is the oldest patriotic organization in our country because of its connection with two state organizations that came into existence in 1890 - the Daughters of the Confederacy in Missouri and the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Confederate Soldiers' Home in Tennessee.  Our patriotic objective is to record the part played during the War by southern women, including their patient endurance of hardship, their patriotic devotion and their untiring efforts during the post-war period of the South.  In addition, we recognize the importance of and support today's military forces.

The UDC has always come to the aid of the nation in times of crisis.  At the beginning of World War I, the President General of the UDC wrote to President Woodrow Wilson and offered loyal support of the 100,00 United Daughters of the Confederacy in whatever capacity their services would be needed.

During World War II, the UDC was the first national women's organization to offer its services to the United States government for war relief.

During the Korean War, the Vietnam Conflict, and Desert Shield/Desert Storm - and in the aftermath of September 11, the UDC continued its patriotic work.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy honors men and women of Confederate descent who have served their country in time of war by bestowing a variety of military service awards..
